The Mid-Hudson Workshop for the Disabled has been self-sufficient, since its beginning in 1948. MHW solicits no funds from any federal, state or local entities, organizations or individuals, relying instead upon the outsourcing jobs we garner from regional and national firms, large and small.
To afford our clients the best possible service, our utilitarian office space takes a decided back seat to investing in staff, plant, equipment and materials.
MHW will add to its personal inventory the necessary machinery, tools and other means to effectively handle almost any new task a client has in mind, as long as there is a reasonable expectation that the investment under consideration is warranted. For example, one new client expressed interest in having serial numbers and logos laser-etched on parts and products, so we may invest almost $20,000 in equipment.
The Mid-Hudson Workshop for the Disabled began with two employees in limited rent-free quarters that once housed a Poughkeepsie, NY, radio station office. Our growing staff and client list allowed us to move, in 1951, to the second floor of the Swift Refrigerator Parts Supply Co. in Arlington, NY. Six years later, with the addition of more business contracts and a need for space, we ultimately moved to our own building on Washington Street in Poughkeepsie. With two additions, the facility has grown to its current 52,000-plus square feet, with Marist College and St. Francis Hospital as neighbors. Our attention to growing our list of satisfied clients is what gives us the ability to build on our mission: To provide meaningful work for the physically and medically disabled. As we continue to grow our client base and add more staff, we can continue to fulfill our mission.
Please, support our mission.

While MHW will accept philanthropic donations, there are other ways you can help us.
We are proud our 60-plus years of self-sufficiency. Not only have we never sought financial support, but we’ve never laid off workers because of a lack of contracts. Instead, we rely on retirements and attrition.
The Mid-Hudson Workshop for the Disabled welcomes donations of any of the items suggested in our “Wish List.” Our physical plant, tooling and work supplies, which serve us well, are aged.
We thank you very much for any donations
